Documentary Purpose and Approach
This project begins from the understanding that land carries the marks of what has happened to it, and that these marks are worth listening to. Here you might describe what first drew you to this place, what you notice when you return, and how you hope to stand alongside the people who live here. You can name the questions you are carrying, the limits of what a camera can show, and the ways you hope filming can be an act of attention rather than extraction. (add personal thoughts)
Focus Areas: Memory, Place, Disaster, Recovery, and Community Healing
describe how memory settles into a particular place; how stories of what happened and what was lost shape the way people move through these places now. environmental harm, policy decisions, and personal grief are entangled, and how recovery is uneven, partial, and ongoing. note how the film attends to small, everyday practices of care, repair, and mutual aid as they emerge over time, healing, altered landscape
About This Project
Bearing Witness to a Wounded Land is a documentary project that spends time with places that have been deeply altered by disaster and with the people who remain. It moves slowly, returning to the same sites and households over time, listening to how stories, silences, and daily routines change as the land itself shifts. Viewers are invited to travel through specific roads, shorelines, fields, or neighborhoods alongside those who know them intimately, hearing how they remember what was there before, what was taken, and what is still held.
